OneAmerica, ExactTarget team up to build home for local veteran
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
INDIANAPOLIS (April 13, 2010) – A team of nearly 200 employees from OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc. and ExactTarget will join forces with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis Friday, April 16 to begin constructing a home for an Indianapolis veteran left homeless by Hurricane Katrina.
Volunteers from the companies will construct the home’s floor and wall panels in the parking lot of OneAmerica’s Gibson Building (433 North Capital Ave.) from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will transport the panels to the future location of the home at 44 N. Rural Street Friday afternoon.
The companies, along with teams of volunteers from Indiana veteran organizations, will begin constructing the home onsite May 18 with a targeted completion date of July 2.
“We’re excited to participate in such a worthwhile community service project,” said Dayton H. Molendorp, chairman, president and CEO for the OneAmerica companies. “Home ownership and the American dream run parallel, and our employees are eager to work together to transform a family’s life.”
Navy veteran Tory Simmons, the future homeowner, along with his wife and two daughters will join volunteers Friday and throughout the project to complete the house. To qualify for the home, the Simmons family will invest more than 450 hours on the project, including attending homeownership classes and working directly on the construction of their new home.
“It’s important we come together and give back to the community that has given us such a tremendous foundation to grow our global business,” said Scott Dorsey, co-founder and chief executive officer of ExactTarget. “By working with Habitat and OneAmerica, we are helping Tory and his family experience the overwhelming generosity and community spirit that makes Indiana such a special place to call home.”
The Habitat for Humanity project is the latest in a series of community projects sponsored by the two companies. Collectively, the companies have invested thousands of hours to support charitable organizations in Central Indiana.
Along with Habitat for Humanity, OneAmerica sponsors the Center for Leadership Development, the United Way, the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Humane Society of Indianapolis, the Indiana Historical Society, Indiana Black Expo, the U.S. Dream Academy, season sponsorship of the Indiana Repertory Theatre and the annual OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon.
